Four arrested over violent brawl at Sydney children’s party

Four people have been arrested this morning over a wild brawl at a children’s birthday party in Sydney last month.

Three men were treated in hospital after the melee erupted between men celebrating separate birthdays at Lollipops Playland and Café in Wetherill Park on June 20.

The scuffle was sparked after a six-year-old girl allegedly had her hair pulled and was threatened by a man in a dispute over play equipment.

Officers executed search warrants across Sydney’s south-west at around 7:30am today and seized clothing in addition to making the arrests.

A 35-year-old Middleton Grange man, a 61-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman from the same Hoxton Park home and a 38-year-old Greenfield Park man were all arrested.

Police are also calling on three more people involved in the brawl to come forward.

Fairfield Local Area Commander Superintendent Peter Lennon said the fact the fight broke out over a minor children’s dispute was particularly disturbing.

“I can’t understand people’s reactions in that circumstance,” Supt Lennon said.

“I think it’s a poor example.

“From reviewing that CCTV, it is very clear there are a lot of adults and especially children who were very upset at that playcentre.”

Mr Lennon said all of those arrested today were from one side of the brawl.

Those in custody face charges of assault and affray, while one person is also expected to be charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A video of the fight showed children hiding in play equipment and screaming as men threw punches wildly.

Amidst the madness, the six-year-old girl called triple zero to alert them to the brawl.

The adults involved allegedly fled before police arrived.

At the time, one of the men who was set upon said he had feared for his life.

“I was just saying to myself, you know, protect yourself, don't get knocked out because if you get knocked out you're pretty much going to die,” the man who only wanted to be known as Chris told 9NEWS.

“They've pulled my hoodie and they've started attacking me, and they've punched me and dropped me on to the floor.

“They were jumping on my head and stepping all over me.”
