Police officer 'hit on head with glass bottle' in NSW Anzac Day brawl

Three men have been charged after an Anzac Day brawl which saw a police officer allegedly hit on the head with a glass bottle by a teenager.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to the pub on William Street in Raymond Terrace in the NSW Hunter Valley at 6.45pm yesterday.

They closed the venue and emptied out drinkers.

However, a group of men soon returned to the front of the pub.

They refused to move on and became aggressive.

A male senior constable was allegedly struck on the head with a glass bottle by a 19-year-old man.

He was also allegedly punched in the head.

Two other men, aged 22 and 24, attempted to free the younger man from police, who used capsicum spray.

All three were arrested and charged with offences including failing to quit a licensed premises, affray, hindering police in execution of their duty, and resisting arrest. The 19-year-old man was also charged with assault police, and using a weapon to avoid apprehension. They were granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on June 6.

The injured officer didn’t need hospital treatment.
