A Melbourne man accused of the murder of schoolgirl Masa Vukotic reportedly punched Tony Abbott in the face when the now-prime minister was visiting a hospital in 2006.

The Age reports that Sean Christian Price, 31, was a patient at a hospital in Melbourne's northeast when Mr Abbott visited in his capacity of Health Minister in the Howard cabinet.

Price, then in his early 20s, landed two blows on Mr Abbott.

No charges were recorded against Price for the punches.

"I hit him and he stepped back and shaped up like a boxer," Price told a journalist from The Age last week.

"Then he dropped his hands and smiled, and said 'I've been hit harder than that on the football field'."

AAP quoted Mr Abbott at the time as describing the hit to his cheek as "a matter of complete inconsequence".

Price was charged on Thursday with the murder of Masa after her body was found in a Doncaster park on Tuesday.

Earlier today he was charged with the digital rape of a woman at a Christian bookshop in the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine.

Half an hour later he turned himself in to a police station.

Earlier that day he allegedly robbed a 26-year-old man on a footbridge and allegedly attempted to carjack an elderly man.
