AFL great Neale Daniher named Victoria's Australian of the Year for 2025
AFL great Neale Daniher has been named Victoria's Australian of the Year for 2025.
The state's Premier Jacinta Allan named the former Australian Rules footballer for Essendon Football Club and FightMND charity co-founder as the recipient of the award at a ceremony in Melbourne last night.
Daniher has been recognised for his tireless work raising awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The cause is close to his heart as he was diagnosed with the condition back in 2013.
He has since raised millions to help prevent the suffering of those diagnosed with the disease in the future.

The condition takes away a person's use of their arms and legs followed by their ability to eat, speak and breathe.
The judges have recognised Daniher for his "courage and relentless drive" and his dedication to raising money and awareness for medical research.
Daniher said in a statement on social media that he felt "humbled and honoured" to be recognised with the honour.
"I am so appreciative of the emotional strength of my wife Jan and children Lauren, Luke, Bec and Ben and their partners," he said.
"Their enduring guidance, and unwavering support has allowed me to maintain my battle against the Beast."

Fellow nominees for the Victoria's Australian of the Year included founder of young carer champion Madeleine Buchner OAM, arts pioneer Professor Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO and activist against sexual extortion and suicide Wayne Holdsworth.
"It is a privilege to be recognised amongst this group of inspirational Victorians whose talents and efforts saw them named as our state's nominations for 2025," Daniher said.
"I congratulate them all on their achievements.
"It is with pride and gratitude that I will be representing our state and all those living with or impacted by MND at the national awards next year."
