A routine traffic stop has led to the seizure of a haul of guns and drugs in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

Police made the discovery after pulling over a driver on the Salisbury Highway at Mawson Lakes yesterday afternoon.

A search of the car uncovered two handguns – one loaded – a homemade firearm and two silencers, alongside 1.3 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine.

The 38-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, both from Underdale, were arrested and charged with numerous offences, including drug trafficking.

Both have been refused bail and will appear in court later today.
