An Adelaide grandmother has told of the terrifying moment she was attacked and robbed in her own home by two men posing as tradies.

Eva Donlon was inside her cabin on Bains Road, Woodcroft when the thieves struck.

Pretending to be trades people - the two men convinced her to let them into her home so they could check her water supply about 8.30am.

Once inside - one pinned the 82-year-old down - while the other searched her home for money.

"There was two of them not just one you know and while I'm standing by the bathroom door and the bedroom door this one run at me and push me on the floor and jumped on top of me and covered my nose and my mouth so I couldn't scream and breathe," Ms Donlon told 9News.

During the attack - she said she feared for her life and tried to fight back.

"I thought they were going to smother me," she said.

Ms Donlon suffered bruising and was treated at the Flinders Medical Centre.

The grandmother had won $6500 on the pokies at the Lonsdale Hotel that morning – all of which was stolen by the thieves.

The Lonsdale Hotel's management says she was escorted to her car by a security guard following her win but in the wake of the attack they will consider whether safety practices need improving.

The thieves were last seen fleeing in a black SUV.
