High Court rejects bail application

A Canberra man convicted of his involvement in a 2013 one-punch attack which left a man with permanent brain injuries has been denied bail in an unusual case before the High Court.

Levi Freeman-Quay, 28, was initially jailed for two years for assault causing grievous bodily harm but that was overturned on appeal, though he still faced six months' jail on the lesser charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

He's appealing against that sentence on grounds that it's excessive and, unsuccessfully, turned to the High Court seeking bail pending consideration of his application for special leave to appeal.
