Accused Melb killer escapes murder charge

Prosecutors have dropped a murder charged against a Melbourne man who has admitted to killing his girlfriend.
Mehmet Torun, 25, is accused of shooting Kara Doyle in the groin with a sawn-off shotgun in the loungeroom of their Avondale Heights home on April 17.
Ms Doyle, 24, died in hospital six days later.

Torun was ordered to stand trial for murder, but prosecutors dropped the charge in Victorian Supreme Court on Friday, instead accepting his guilty plea to manslaughter.
He will face a pre-sentence hearing in the same court on March 17.
