Accused fake Queensland nurse facing 115 charges

A fake nurse who was employed by Queensland Health, has been charged with more than 100 counts of assaulting and wounding his patients.

Nicholas William Crawford allegedly forged identification to land the $100,000 a year job.

He pledged to help the sick, except police say he wasn't allowed to.

Crawford walked out of court today on bail for 115 charges - 50 counts of unlawful wounding, 45 of assault, 19 counts of unlawfully supplying dangerous drugs, and one count of fraud. 

The alleged victims are people of Aurukun on Cape York, where for 6 weeks earlier this year Crawford is accused of posing as a nurse and was employed by Queensland Health.

"It is a very serious thing for someone to pretend they are a nurse… or a doctor or have any sort of medical qualification when they don't," Health minister Cameron Dick said.

Somehow his fake documents passed checks.

Payroll staff picked up the bungle, when his registration number didn't match his name.

"I'm pleased to report that there was no harm to anyone as a consequence of his conduct," Mr Dick said.

Crawford had allegedly previously posed as a nurse in the Northern Territory.

The Nation's health ministers are now looking at ways to tighten cross border checks, so fake practitioners cannot shop around the states. 

The health minister says Queensland Health isn't sick.

"Oh no i don't think so at all – I'm very pleased he was picked up by our system," Mr Dick said. 

Crawford will be back in court in September.
