From the archives: Tracy Grimshaw's 2006 interview with Terri and Bindi Irwin following Steve's death

When A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw interviewed Terri and Bindi Irwin in 2006 it had been just three months since Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin had been killed by a stingray.

His daughter, Bindi, showed at the time that she was no ordinary eight-year-old when she vowed to Grimshaw she would continue her father's legacy and wanted to be just like him.

At the time, Bindi said although she and her mum wished they had "10 more years" with Steve they appreciated the time they had together.

"We're really lucky that we could have that long with him," Bindi told Grimshaw.

The Irwins said they had honoured Steve was by continuing to entertain people.

Bindi revealed when she wanted to remember her dad, she would watch a video they starred in together.

"The DVD when I look at it, I really like the cooking with my dad because it brings back so many memories," Bindi said.

"We got to do all those things and at the end of it we would just crack up laughing at ourselves."

Terri said following her husband's death she coped by trying to take one day at a time.

"For me I have been seeking a lot of help, i've spoken to a psychologist, i've been reading a lot of great material and i've been working really hard at honouring my grief, at grabbing little glimpses of joy - appreciating my kids," Terri said.

She said she believed if things were the other way around that's what she would have wanted Steve to do.
