What it was like growing up with Tracy Grimshaw

The neighbourhood where A Current Affair's Tracy Grimshaw grew up has paid tribute to the beloved TV host ahead of her departure from the show.

Some former and current Greensborough residents in Melbourne's north-east even revealed what it was like growing up alongside the legendary host.

"Tracy and I've grown up together since we were kids," former Greensborough resident Glynn Davis told A Current Affair reporter Martin King.

"Our parents met on the boat, (they) met migrating to Australia over 60 years ago."

Davis was once Grimshaw's next door neighbour.

"Tracy used to work for my dad pumping gas in a petrol station in West Heidelberg. We used to holiday together," he said.

He said they had lots of fun times together which included spending time at the swimming pools and with their dogs, as well as memories of learning to drive cars.

Davis said he also still remembers when Grimshaw started her career as a cadet journalist with the Diamond Valley News.

"She was doing restaurant reviews and I got to go with her one time to do a restaurant review," he said.

"As two 18-year-olds sitting there pretending we knew what it was like to be in a restaurant and then her then critiquing the owners, it was a whole lot of fun back then."

First Constable Andon Krstevski from the local police station said they proudly have the host's photo inside their station from Grimshaw's Today Show days.

"She's come in here to sign a lovely photo for a senior sergeant who was retiring," Krstevski said.

While another proud Greensborough local said he's watched her on TV as "she stands up for the normal people".

"I'm really proud of Tracy and what she's achieved. I think she's done a lot for people who don't have a voice," local woman Kylie said.
