Historic theatre reopened in Sydney after years of darkness

For years, the curtain on a once praised Sydney theatre stayed closed.

Now, Teatro is making a big come-back with new owners promising to inject life into the theatre and the area.

The theatre will bring Broadway and West End titles and that old magic back.

In its hey day, the dazzling Teatro was the The Italian Forum's main attraction in Sydney's cosmopolitan Leichardt.

But foot traffic dropped, shops closed and eventually the lights dimmed on the theatre too.

Teatro though is back, refurbished, re-energised, and ready to deliver world-class shows.

"When we kind of came into the building, it wasn't a fact of how, it wasn't like we can't do it. It was like, how do we make this a reality?" new co-owner Nathan Wright said.

"To have a venue this side of the city, the Inner West is such a huge community here and we wanted to create phenomenal art and artistry in the Inner West."

The first production of this new era is musical The Addams Family which is on until October 26.

Jessica Parris plays Morticia and Kye Hall Gomez.

"It's honestly such an honor to be part of the Teatro's first production," Jessica said.

"I am so grateful that Andrew and Nathan trusted me to be a leading lady in their first show."

Kye added: "I just can't wait until there is people here, we can share our art and everything we have created, we can laugh together, cry together, sing together with people and have that connection for the three hours that we are here."
