'A bold move': Paris ready to welcome the world with ambitious opening ceremony

The opening ceremony will mark the start of the Paris Olympics in just five days' time and organisers will be breaking records before the games even start.

While the ceremony is usually held in a stadium, a six-kilometre route along the city's famous Seine River will welcome the athletes to officially kick off the Games.

The seats are ready for the 320,000 people who will line the Seine as it transports 80 boats filled with sporting stars.

There'll be more than 100 world leaders, a security presence like no other and a TV audience of more than one billion people.

Paris 2024 Olympics chief executive Étienne Thobois understands the scale of the ceremony is unlike anything we've seen before.

"It was a bold move clearly to put the games out of the stadium with the opening ceremony," Thobois said.

"But we've you know, we've turned every stone, the security setup will be unprecedented and we are very excited."
