Local parents break barriers with inclusive junior rugby team

Rachel and Taylor dreamed of seeing their kids on the rugby field.

But for a long time, they didn’t think that was possible.

Both nine-year-old Meniah and six-year-old Keanu live with autism and are non-speaking.

“Our life is quite isolated. There’s not a lot our boys have access to in terms of the community,” Rachel told A Current Affair.

Thankfully, a meeting over coffee with a local league club put the wheels in motion for a new, inclusive footy team.

With the goalposts already shifting, hopes are high for more inclusive teams to thrive.
