'I thought I've got to finish this': Inside the police interview room with missing camper killer Greg Lynn

"I thought I've got to finish this and I drove back there and I set fire to them".

They're the words of a monster.

After initially refusing to talk to detectives following his arrest over the disappearances of Russell Hill and Carol Clay, former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn told detectives, chapter and verse, how he bundled the campers' bodies in his trailer and dumped them in the bush.

But it was all an accident, he claimed, and he thought he was "going to be blamed".

His words have been laid bare for the first time, following the release of parts of his police interview.

In it, Lynn told detectives he tried to return to a normal life before police knocked on his door.

"I started to get nervous that this plan was unravelling," he said.

"And tried to remove as much evidence as I could," he said, detailing how he returned to the bodies of the elderly campers in the Victorian high country, dousing them with kerosene and setting them alight.

But he professed: "I'm innocent of murder".

Police disagreed, charging him with two counts of murder.

While a jury did not ultimately convict him of the murder of Hill, Lynn will be sentenced over the murder of Clay at a later date.
