A Victorian woman who has found fame with her funky family of chickens claims to have taught one of her roosters how to skateboard.

A Current Affair was recently invited by 79-year-old Elaine Janes to watch her pet Squiggles ride a board at a skatepark.

According to Elaine, she first discovered Squiggles had this special talent by testing it out in her driveway.

"He's a very good boy. Very clever," says Elaine, like a proud Mother Hen.

Elaine - nicknamed "Lainey the Chicken Lady" - has a passion for poultry.

At home in Ocean Grove, Elaine keeps "too many" birds to count.

But to ensure their comfort, Elaine has built a giant chicken coup known as the "Hilton Hen House".

"My love of chickens happened accidentally," Elaine explains.

"I'd had dogs for years and all of a sudden a chicken walked out of the front of my house. That chook - 'Flapper' - became the love of my life."

Since taking in 'Flapper', Elaine's group of feathered flatmates has flourished.

"They're characters. They can be naughty. They can be sneaky. They pinch food. But they've all got personality and when you work out what you can do with them, they progress.

Elaine likes to see her birds spread their wings and she tries to find each chicken a hobby.

"They love being taken out. They love outings," Elaine says.

A Current Affair was also present when Elaine took her hen, Ms Chook, to "swim" at the beach.

"She's my number one special girl. She has a love for the Ocean!" Elaine states.

Sure enough Ms Chook wet her feathers without too much fuss.

Elaine has recently entered the world of publishing with her own type of "chick-lit".

Under My Wing is a self-published collection of stories written by Elaine's about her feathered family.
