A Sydney bricklayer says he was floored when he saw alleged gunman Naveed Akram's face on social media during the Bondi Beach terror attack.

"It made me feel a bit sick that I spent so much time with someone for them to be a monster like that," Lockie told A Current Affair.

The tradesman says he worked on building sites with labourer Akram for about five years.

When the picture of Akram holding a rifle surfaced, Lockie reposted it with a curt and expletive-laden message.

"Obviously in shock, disbelief," he said.

Lockie said he noticed a change in Akram when his father separated from his mother.

That's when he believes the father and son turned to Islam.

"I think he was born Christian and then I think his old man turned," Lockie said.

"But I don't think that's the issue, I think it more just comes down to the individual.

"I think we can't just paint every Islamic person with the same brush, you know what I mean. It's not an Islamic issue, he's just a sick individual."

The revelation comes as fresh vision emerges of the chaotic attack and aftermath.
