Families living in tents as housing crisis continues

Two former emergency responders have found themselves living on the frontline of the housing crisis.

What started as a few tents has exploded into a full-blown camp taking over a tennis court north of Brisbane.

There are families living in the tents with children that still need to go to school and parents with jobs.

Makeshift camps are popping up elsewhere and charities are warning it could get worse.

Pensioners and former SES volunteers Desley and her brother Colin live in tents in Redcliffe, 45 minutes north of Brisbane.

"People older than me are living in their cars, why is no one doing anything? Why is no one listening to those that need help and want a home?" Desley said.

"I've never been without a home since I was really young.

"Now I'm 66, I'm out here in the streets."
