'Diabolical' floods push NSW dairy farm underwater

Sue McGinn has been a dairy farmer for more than three decades.

But the one-in-500-year floods on the NSW Mid North Coast are pushing her to the brink.

Her farm north of Taree is completely underwater, leaving her cows without food.

And they're completely cut off, so even if there is help on the way, they can't get it.

"It's diabolical. This is the worst flood we have seen in 31 years here on the Lower Macleay," McGinn said.

"We have 200 head of dairy cows here and they're hungry, they're miserable, they're wet.

"They've been laying in mud for the last two months so they're suffering, we're suffering, it's just very, very trying times."

The federal and state governments have announced interim subsidies to help transport livestock and fodder.

But McGinn anticipates she will need to bring in fodder until spring.

"We expect to go through floods, you know, on a regular basis, but this is not a regular flood," she said.

"This is a catastrophic flood on the back of wet conditions and we are 100 per cent inundated."
