At 10 o'clock and 3 o'clock everyday, Tocumwal florist Serina Drury would call her mother Betty.

And every Sunday, Serina and her friend Craig Day, a third-generation truckie, would visit her parents for dinner.

"She was my best friend," Betty told A Current Affair.

On a Sunday in July last year, Serina and Craig never made it to dinner.

Their car had been hit by a 19-year-old, who drove straight past a give-way sign and ploughed into their Toyota Hilux.

They were hit and pushed metres by a Ford Ranger driven by Bart Moore, who was on his provisional license or P1s at the time.

Moore would later tell a court he had never seen a car there before and that's why he thought he didn't have to slow down.

Despite causing the death of two people, Moore won't spend a second behind bars.

After pleading guilty, he was handed a three-year jail sentence to be spent supervised in the community.

He must also receive psychological treatment, abstain from illicit substances and not drive for three years.

Craig and Serina's families are outraged by the sentence.

"I don't think it's fair ... he's got a future, we've got nothing," Betty said.

"I got a life sentence, he got nothing," Serina's father Colin said.

Now 20 years old, reports say Moore held his head in his hands while victim impact statements were read in court.

Moore reportedly told the court: "I'm disgusted in myself ... because I've taken two innocent lives."

But Colin isn't buying the remorse.

"If he was a bit remorseful, he'd call round home and say sorry or even make a phone call," Colin said.

The families plan to try to convince the DPP to appeal the sentence.

But until then, it's just photos left to remind them of the love they've lost.

A Current Affair made contact with Moore, who declined to comment.
