Call for 'unknown victims' of paedophile, child killer, to come forward

Mum of two Lisa Giles was just five years old when paedophile Michael Guider entered her life.

She was one of his victims, but now, as the serial offender and child killer walks free from jail, she would rather be recognised as somebody who is angry, and who is determined to stop Guider ruining anybody else's life.

Guider left jail this afternoon after 23 years behind bars for the manslaughter of schoolgirl Samantha Knight, and more than 60 child sex offences.

Lisa stood alongside Samantha's mother Tess in trying to stop his release.

"Guider will become part of a long list of dangers that we need to face every time we walk out the door," Lisa told A Current Affair Crime Editor Simon Bouda.

"I am worried for the safety of children. Children are his target."

In court, psychologists said while Guider was a "high-risk" offender, those risks could be managed in the community.

Lisa doesn't feel that's enough.

"He can't help himself, and that's not because I feel sorry for him, he's just compelled. He's a machine," she said.

"It's lazy and it's crazy to say that just because he's been in jail, he hasn't had thoughts about children and he hasn't had the impulses to offend."

Lisa said it would only take Guider a "matter of moments" to ruin somebody's life.

And she said it was time to shine a "blazing hot light" on Guider's crimes.

Lisa is convinced that there are other victims of Guider who have never come forward.

"And I know those people may be telling themselves something they've told themselves for years, that makes them feel like they are not worthy, or their interaction with him wasn't big enough or didn't mean enough or doesn't count," she said.

"But it does."

She urged anybody who may have been a victim of Guider but never reported it to come forward in the hope of opening a new case against the child killer.

"We need you. It's safe, if you want to disclose," she said.

"There is a better life waiting for you, and the possibility of fresh charges against Michael Guider. Good, clean justice."

For now, Lisa is looking to make a difference.

She wanted to force change in the judicial system to stop people like Guider finding a way out.

"To stop offenders from being released when they should not be," she said.

"To serve sentences consecutively rather than concurrently. To stop bargaining with peoples' trauma and children's deaths."
