60 MINUTES: Controversial blogger Constance Hall on success, motherhood and dealing with hate

Social media sensation and feminist Constance Hall says she is the victim of Australia's tall poppy syndrome.

Polarising blogger Constance Hall has hit back at her haters in an exclusive television interview with 60 Minutes, telling her detractors if they don't like what she writes they can simply stop reading it. 

"If you're upset because you're a five-foot bogan that didn't make it, then f**king make it!", she told reporter Allison Langdon.

Rude, crude, and very often nude, Hall has built an international, multi-million-dollar empire by blogging about the highs and lows of her chaotic family life.

Everything from Caesarean scars, anxiety attacks, financial woes and relationship breakdowns are shared in Hall's expletive-laden posts. 

She's followed by an army of two million women she calls her "Queens", who find inspiration in her raw, unfiltered honesty.

 While Hall admits her outspoken views are polarising, she believes Australia's tall poppy syndrome has made her a target for trolls and online bullies.

"I think it's probably one of the main reasons that everyone hates me, because the following got so big," she said.

What began as a cathartic venting exercise about the pitfalls of motherhood and marriage quickly transformed into an online following of over two million fans.

But with a blended family of seven children – five of her own – Hall is adamant that she is more than just a 'Mummy Blogger'.

"F*** no. I'm not a mummy blogger. Are you a mummy journalist?" she laughed to Langdon.

"As soon as you become a mum, you just get typecast as just a mum, and it really takes over your whole life," said Hall.

"And that's what I'm trying to change. You can be a mum and be a legend. You can be a mum and you can travel. You can do this, because your husband should be doing 50 per cent of the child rearing too."

As Langdon reports, it's the authenticity of the anti-influencer that has turned Hall from a self-confessed bogan into not only one of the most successful bloggers in the country, but also a best-selling author and a fashion entrepreneur with a successful clothing line.

Front and centre in all her work is Hall's feminist message: that men and women should be completely equal.

"[Men] need to step up. I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe it to be true," she said.

"I'm not trying to piss off the white Australian man, but I don't care if I do."

Inviting 60 Minutes cameras into her family home, Hall was candid about the impact the online hate had on her, revealing that through one dark period she had thought about taking her own life.

"There was definitely a time where I was just like, it would just be easier to not even be here," she said.

"It was something that sort of swirled around in my head. I'd never felt like that before."

"I'd never even considered… like that's terrifying. How could anyone do that, you know?"

Hall has now adopted a different approach – taking strength from the knowledge she may not be for everyone.

 "I'm just going to write what I want to write. And if you don't like it, don't read it!"
