The Aussies up for Oscar nominations (and the talents who missed out)
The nominations for the 2025 Oscars are in and Australian talent is centre stage.
The annual event, also known as the Academy Awards, is a showcase of artistic and technical merit in the film industry.
The voting, which was initially delayed due to the deadly Los Angeles wildfires, was a process that involved almost 10,000 members of the Academy.
The final overall list has been labelled as a mixture of safe bets, long shots and surprise snubs.

Guy Pearce has been nominated for best supporting actor for his work in the film The Brutalist.
The film, which is up for 10 awards, follows an architect who flees post-war Europe and tries to start a new life in the United States.
The Australian actor is up against Yura Borisov, Kieran Culkin, Edward Norton and Jeremy Strong for the award.
Pearce was recognised for his work earlier this month with a best supporting actor nomination at the Golden Globes, which ultimately went to Culkin for his work in the film A Real Pain.
Greig Fraser has been recognised for his work behind the camera with a nomination for best cinematography.
The Australian has earned the nod for his work on the film Dune: Part Two, which featured the acting talents of Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.
Fraser won the category at the 2022 Oscars for the first installment in the film.
He faces tough competition from Paul Guillaume, who worked on the movie-musical Emilia Perez, which has received an historic 13 nominations for this year's awards.
Fraser will also compete with Lol Crawley, Edward Lachman and Jarin Blaschke in the hopes of adding a new trophy to his collection.
Australian stop-motion animated film Memoir of a Snail is up for best animated feature.
The film was written, produced and directed by Victoria's own Adam Elliot.
The nomination is also a nod for accomplished Australian producer Liz Kearney.
The movie is nominated alongside Inside Out 2, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, The Wild Robot and Flow.

Nicole Kidman missed out on a nomination for best actress in a leading role for her performance in Babygirl.
The nominees were Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Karla Sofia Gascón for Emilia Pérez, Mikey Madison for Anora, Demi Moore for The Substance and Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here.
Kidman is not the only leading actress to be overlooked.
Fellow actresses Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson were also notably absent from the list for their work in Maria and The Last Showgirl respectively.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is up for the best visual effects award.
The film is competing against box office smash Wicked, Dune: Part Two, the Robbie Williams biographical musical Better Man and Alien: Romulus.
Australian Rodney Burke made a significant contribution to the visual effects of the iconic franchise.
