The alleged ring leader of a drug syndicate in Sydney's west has been arrested following the seizure of a $1 million cannabis haul.

On Friday morning, police raided an industrial unit on Blackstone Street in Wetherill Park as part of an investigation into cannabis supply and cultivation.

Officers allegedly found 340 cannabis plants being grown in a sophisticated hydroponic set-up.

Police allege the haul has a street value of $1 million.

The plants were seized alongside cash, a smoke grenade, heat lamps, watering systems and filters.

Police say a 61-year-old man, allegedly the ring leader of the drug syndicate, was charged with drug offences, including large commercial cultivation of a prohibited plant.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
