A zebra made the most of its freedom by wreaking havoc in a Florida neighbourhood.

The animal escaped a private property in Wimauma on Friday, leaving neighbours startled and damaging a car it ran into.

Neighbour Mark Ross told FOX 13 he was letting his dogs out when the zebra ran toward him.

The zebra was seen trotting along a busy road and ran into a Ford 1540, shattering the car’s windscreen, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office said.

Police were called and, with the help of the zebra owner’s employees, assisted it back to its yard.

Under Florida law, many exotic animals require a permit for public exhibition, sale or personal possession.
