Aussie teen walks free from Bali prison after security guard assault

An Australian teen, jailed in Bali for assaulting a security guard at a fast food restaurant, has walked free after apologising for his actions.

Zac Whiting shook hands with his victim as he was released from custody and said he was "very sorry" for hitting the local man.

The 18-year-old from the Sunshine Coast reached a peace agreement after twice punching the security guard at Kuta Burger King last week.

The victim also revealed he received AU$2000 in compensation from Whiting.

"It's not a day for celebration, it is a day for reflection for Zac to take responsibility for one moment of madness and the pain and suffering he has affected on himself, his family, his victim and all the people that supported him," Whiting's security consultant John McLeod told 9News.

He said Whiting would have a post-detention debrief where his mental and physical health will be assessed and discussions will be made on when he returns home.

Whiting spent eight days in custody after the incident and had previously said he let everyone down and felt "disgust by his behaviour" and finding himself behind bars was "self inflicted".
