Yankees baseballer Alex Rodriguez tries his hand at football with disastrous results

New York Yankees baseballer Alex Rodriguez’s attempt to relive his high-school football glory days has ended in humbling fashion, after the star broke a television screen with a wayward pass on a US sports program.

Rodriguez, 40, was making his debut appearance on Fox Sports’ NFL Sunday program when his co-hosts handed him a football to pass to expert Jay Glazer.

“It’s been over 20 years, I’ll give it a shot,” the Yankees third baseman uttered, before hurling the football across the set.

The pass covered the distance easily, clearing Glazer’s outstretched hand and clattering into a flat-screen television display – leaving one panel shattered and the hosts in stitches.

It was Rodriguez’s first day as an official analyst for the network, after he signed up to offer expert commentary for the Major League Baseball playoffs.

“A-Rod” was a promising high school quarterback, and was once offered a scholarship to play college football with the University of Miami.

The 14-time All-Star instead forged an incredible baseball career, albeit one mired in controversy.

Rodriguez missed the 2014 MLB season after being suspended for 211 games – reduced to 162 on appeal – over his alleged involvement with a performance enhancing drugs laboratory.
