Woman has sex change to avoid debt

A Russian woman underwent a sex change to avoid paying off her debts only to be held liable all the same, bailiffs have claimed.

The woman, known only as Natalya, had accumulated about $4200 in debt and was being chased by dispossessors, the Daily Star reported.

Desperate to throw them off the scent, she made the dramatic decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery to assume a new identity, complete with new passport and credit loan.

"The debtor changed gender to try to escape liabilities," bailiff spokeswoman Yevgenia Zarynsh said.

"During our investigation, we found out that the woman doesn't exist anymore, and now a man exists."

Natalya, now a man named Andrian, is still on the run with dispossessors hot on his trail.

"It's futile. He'll still have to pay them back.

"If a debtor thinks he can escape that way, he's very much mistaken."
