Would you like cash with that? Customer finds $3000 in fast food bag

A US woman has been applauded for her honesty after ordering a burger only to find her takeaway bag mistakenly contained over $3000 in cash instead of food.

Janelle Jones, of Rochester, New Hampshire, stopped at a Burger King for a late afternoon snack on Friday and ordered a chicken burger and iced tea, the Associated Press reports.

She was driving home when she discovered the sandwich bag contained $3347 in cash in two bank deposit bags instead of food.

Mrs Jones then called her husband, Matthew Jones, who suggested she come home so they could return the money together.

Mr Jones admitted the couple toyed with the idea of keeping the money.

"We are not perfect human beings," Mr Jones said.

He said he and his wife are Jehovah's Witnesses, and that "Jehovah sees everything."

"One (employee) said they were going to get fired so it felt good knowing we helped them keep their jobs," Mrs Jones said.

The couples' honesty won't go completely unrewarded, with Mrs Jones saying the store manager has promised them five free meals.

Store employees at Rochester's Burger King confirmed the incident but chose not to comment.
