Woman killed in rope jump accident after staff forget safety rope

A woman has died during a rope jump in Brazil after staff apparently forgot to attach her safety cord.
The woman, identified as 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, was thrown off an abandoned railway bridge in Limeira, Sao Paolo, falling 40 metres to her death.

A rope, apparently the safety cord, lies unattached on the ground.
People can be heard calling out about the rope as de Freitas is thrown, with screams and yells heard afterward.
It’s been reported that de Freitas’s fiance witnessed her fatal fall.
A rope jump differs from a bungee jump in that the rope is not elastic, but it catches the jumper at a safe height from the ground and allows them to swing back and forth.
AFP reported three people were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide-related offences.
The specific offence under Brazilian law means they were allegedly aware of the risk of death but chose to proceed anyway.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and establish liability,” police told the AFP.
Brazilian media reported a police spokesperson as saying the rope-jumping group did not even have permission to operate at the site, while their defence lawyer characterised them as experienced professionals.
Local news outlets reported the companies apparently operating the jump were Entre Cordas, who have since taken down their social media page, and linked instructors Ih Voei.
