US woman allegedly abuses Muslim shopper who let her in queue
A woman shopping at a US supermarket has been filmed allegedly harassing a Muslim woman, telling her “I wish they hadn’t let you in the country”.
The ugly incident at a Trader Joe’s store in Virginia on Saturday allegedly began when the Muslim woman let the customer go ahead of her in the queue because she appeared to be in a hurry.
But, to the woman’s surprise, the shopper turned on her and began a diatribe against Muslims.
Comedian Jeremy McLellan, who says he is friends with the Muslim woman and confirmed the incident was real, posted the video to Facebook, adding that his friend wished to remain anonymous.
According to McLellan, after his friend let the woman in front of her she started “talking bad” about another Muslim in the store who was wearing a niqab.
The woman asked McLellan’s friend why she didn’t cover up as well, to which she replied it was her choice.
When the woman said she didn’t believe her, that’s when McLellan’s friend began filming.
“I shouldn't have let you in front of me,” McLellan’s friend says in the video.
“I wish they didn't let you in the country,” the woman counters.
“Excuse me?” she replies. “I was born here.”
“Oh you were? Okay”, the shopper in the gray cardigan says.
After a pause, the woman resumes the unpleasant conversation: “Obama's not in office anymore. We don't have a Muslim in there anymore.”
“Yeah...I wish he was,” the Muslim shopper says.
“Well, he's gone. He may be in jail too in the future,” the other woman tells her, looking into the camera.
"You look a little crazy, maybe you need to get some help,” McLellan’s incredulous friend says.
“Oh, I'm fine,” the woman says.
"No you're not, because you don't just strike up a conversation with people in line talking about stuff like that if you're normal,” the shopper tells her.
'I'm very normal,' the woman insists.
“Looks like it, I can tell,” the Muslim shopper replies, before ending the video.
The video has been watched more than five million times on McLellan’s Facebook page, drawing widespread condemnation against the woman in the video.
