Wild sheep tangled around tree rescued by jogger

A wild sheep has found an unlikely hero in a bushwalker after its horns became tangled around a tree.

Krystof Wlodarczyk was cutting through the woods near his Konin home recently when he came across the panicked Mouflon, an ancestor of domestic sheep distinguished by its large twisted horns.

Determined to set it free Mr Wlodarczyk leaped to action, using his hands to carefully unthread the animal's antlers from the tree.

Cautious of its would-be rescuer, the sheep kicked and spun aggressively around the wooden base, forcing the runner to jump back several times to avoid suffering a blow.

Finally Mr Wlodarczyk managed to pry it free, sending it bolting off into the woods.

But their encounter did not end there, he said, with the animal pausing to turn and face him again after a few metres.

"He stopped on a hill and we measured for a few seconds, amazing," Mr Wlodarczyk said.

"I think it was its way of saying thank you."
