Hero wife protects husband from gun-toting robbers in UK

A woman has boldly wedged herself between her husband and gun-wielding bandits in a moment of bravery police have praised as pure courage.

The brazen heist was captured on CCTV in Leyton, north east London and the video has led to serious jail time for the two thieves at a court sentencing on July 25.

In the video the thieves approached the pair on the steps to their front door, but the wife moved in front of her husband to protect him from the robbers clad in high-visibility jackets.

Both men were holding guns.

The bravery of the woman was not enough to stop Nyrome Hinds, 31, from opening fire on her husband.

He was hit once in the leg and once in the stomach, and was shot a third time as he lay injured on the ground,

The shots caused a leg fracture and multiple bowel injuries, but he has since been discharged from hospital.

The heroic actions by the wife were praised by police, suggesting the outcome could have been far worse.

"The victim was very lucky to survive with the injuries he received. I would like to give special acknowledgement to the victim's wife who courageously fought off the attackers and attempted to get between them and her husband,” said Detective Sergeant Nick Hamer.

"If it had not been for her actions, it is highly likely that more shots would have been fired at her husband, and the outcome could have been worse."

In court, Hinds was found guilty of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, robbery and possession of a firearm.

He was sentenced to 32 years in prison.

His partner, David Sterling, 33, pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a firearm.

He was found not guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years behind bars.

CCTV footage was key to the case – with footage putting the pair together before and during the attack.

Witness statements and phone records placed the duo together after the attack, which occurred in November last year.
