Whale watchers spot two rare albino orcas in Japan

Tourists on a whale watching cruise in Japan saw an incredible sight of two albino orcas.

Gojiraiwa Kanko Whale Watching posted pictures and a video of a herd of whales which included the orcas.

The company wrote on Facebook they were "excited" and said they had not seen an albino orca for two years.

"I found a herd of orca including the white orca. In the middle of the day," it said.

"Our first observation of white orca... No way I can observe a white individual again."

A short video on the company's blog shows the albinos and regular-coloured orcas swimming together, with tourists on the boat gushing in excitement.

The white colour is caused by a lack of melanin production.

As he has not been spotted recently some researchers fear he has died.

He was last officially seen two years ago, and was unwell.

The albino orcas were spotted near Shiretokoon at the northeastern tip of Hokkaido, Japan's most northerly island.
