Video shows why you should never text and drive
UK police have released the ultimate video proof of why you should never text and drive.
The video shows truck driver Razvan Rusu engrossed in his phone at the wheel, only pausing occasionally to look at the road he is travelling down in north west London.
Seconds later the sickening crash follows, with Rusu smashing his truck into a van, which in turn collides with two cars.
Rusu, 30, was jailed for eight months as a result of the crash, which happened in March last year, the Mirror reports.
A quick-thinking driver who was directly in the path of the truck managed to swerve out of the way, but two people were still injured in the crash and four vehicles damaged.
Rusu returned to his native home in Romania after the crash but was summoned to appear in court when he later went back to the UK.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Pidgeon told the Mirror he continued to be shocked by the dangerous behaviour of some drivers, especially when they were aware they were being filmed.
"Rarely is it possible to see such a clear example of the risks some drivers are willing to take with mobile phones and the danger that using them whilst driving can cause,” he said.
