Robin Williams' daughter Zelda has defied social media trolls and returned to Twitter with an inspirational quote just weeks after cruel taunts and pictures of her late father forced her into quitting the site.

Zelda, one of the late actor and comedian's three children, left Twitter two days after her father's August 11 suicide.

"I'm sorry. I should've risen above. Deleting this from my devices for a good long time, maybe forever. Time will tell. Goodbye," she wrote then.

Her departure from social media came after a pair of Twitter users posted a photo of a dead body, claiming it was her father's.

However, her return was a defiant response to online bullying.

She linked to an inspirational quote from actor and writer Harvey Fierstein.

It read: "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no ones definition of your life; define yourself."

With the link she posted a simple message reading "Thank you"
