Woman slept next to mother's corpse for three years

A US woman slept next to her mother's skeleton for three years and would move her bones into the kitchen so she could eat dinner with the corpse every night.

Chava Stirn, 28, wore the same outfit her 61-year-old mother had on when she died and would drag a chair into the kitchen so she could sleep next to her mother who lay in a bed of garbage bags.

"It's a scene right out of Psycho….This is one of the weirdest cases I've ever seen," a law enforcement source said.

The source said that the apartment was covered in garbage when officers entered the home.

"She may have been living there with the mom's remains for two or three years ... It's a horrible scene."

Neighbours couldn't smell Susie Rosenthal's corpse and only noticed the stench when the building manager went to investigate a leak coming from the apartment on Monday afternoon.

They said the woman never left her home and they often used to hear strange noises coming from the apartment.

"I never saw her or her mother. They never came out. I never saw the door open," another neighbour said.

"When I listened, she was screaming ... [She yelled] 'I kill myself, I kill myself!'" said Malka Lerner, 41.

Emergency workers had to knock down her door as Ms Stirn refused to let the officers into the home.

Police said the woman was acting "erratically" when they visited the house and she believed that her mother had "left her there to die".

The woman was then taken to a medical centre for psychiatric evaluation.

The cause of Ms Rosenthal's death is still not known.
