Weatherman rescues kitten from tornado rubble

A television meteorologist in the US has filmed the moment he discovered a crying kitten in the rubble of a tornado-ravaged barn.

In the heart-warming footage, WHIO weatherman Rich Wirdzek follows the impossibly small creature's cries to find it cowering beside a pile of rubble, before scooping it up into his arms.

The family who owns the farm told him the kitten "was one of several born in their barn recently".

It is unknown whether any of its siblings survived the strong tornado, which swept through Cedarville, Ohio on Wednesday.

The storm caused major damage to several homes and farm buildings in the area but no one was injured, according to the National Weather Service.
