US police chase ends with dramatic highway pile-on

A high-speed police chase has come to a dramatic end in the US, with a suspect’s car suffered from an ill-timed flat tire.

The man, who was wanted in connection with a murder investigation, led Detroit police on a long chase that spanned several kilometres of the interstate highway and into a business district today, local broadcaster WDIV reports.

Aerial video of the chase shows a grey SUV speeding through traffic before the front driver’s side tire goes flat, forcing the driver to park on the highway.

After leaping over the highway’s median barrier, the man attempts to make his way through the opposite lane of traffic, only to leap atop the hood of an oncoming mini-van.

He has since been taken into custody.
