US girl, 11, hails $2500 cab ride to meet up with interstate boyfriend

The parents of an 11-year-old US girl who hailed a $2500 cab ride to meet her interstate boyfriend are pushing for a new law that would require taxi drivers to card underage passengers.

Last week, Arkansas girl Alexis Waller stole $10,000 from her grandmother's sock drawer and hitched a plan to meet her 16-year-old boyfriend in Florida, NBC News reported.

She left her home in the middle of the night, got a ride with a stranger to a nearby town and hailed a cab to meet up with the boy hours away.

The cab driver thought she was 17 or 18 and she paid him $1300 upfront, promising to pay the rest when they arrived.

"He didn't really ask me anything," Alexis said.

"He just wanted to know where I wanted to go."

Police tracked her down using phone records to figure out which cab company she was using.

Her parents drove for nine hours to pick her up in Atlanta and say they have confiscated her phone.

"At the same time, you have the rest of her life to punish her, you want to hug her and love her," her dad Brent Waller said.
