Video has been released of the moment a cleaning truck crashed into the side of a stationary cargo jet at Miami International Airport.

The incident occurred on March 23 when a small truck from a cleaning company slammed into the side of an unmanned Boeing 757 cargo plane owned by US shipping company UPS, Aviation Week reports.

It appears the driver of the truck thought he could pass safely under the belly of the twin-engine jet but underestimated the vehicle's height but officials say the driver may have "hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal".

Sources told Aviation Week the crashed caused several punctures in the jet's skin and other damage.

The plane was taken out of service for repairs but returned to the skies on April 13.

"To ensure that the aircraft was safe to fly, it underwent extensive skin and structural repairs before returning to service, just in time to carry plane loads of flowers from Central and South America for our Mother's Day customers," a UPS spokesman told Aviation Week.

An investigation is ongoing.
