Trooper 'harassed' after arresting cop

A US highway patrol trooper who famously arrested a policeman she caught speeding is now suing for more than $550,000 because of the harassment she has faced.

Dashcam footage showed Donna Jane Watts pulling over and handcuffing Fausto Lopez, while he was in full uniform, after she spotted him whizzing down a highway to an off-duty job at speeds of up to 190km/h in Miami, Florida in 2011.

Even with her blue lights flashing and siren blaring, it took her more than seven minutes to pull him over.

Not certain who was behind the wheel, she approached the car warily with her gun drawn, yelling: "Put your hands out of the window! Right now!"

Since that incident, Ms Watts claims in her lawsuit, she has received several threatening or prank phone calls and has had police cars idling outside her house.

She has also learned that 88 law enforcement officers from 25 different police agencies had been improperly accessing her driver's licence information.

Ms Watts is suing those agencies and could receive more than $550,000.

"Ultimately what it comes down to is a violation of privacy," Ms Watts' lawyer Mirta Desir told MailOnline.

"It wasn't for any legitimate purpose on the part of the police officers and it was done by people in a position of trust."
