Train nearly catches US politican

Politicians often have close calls, but they rarely come this close.

When Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal was standing by at a presentation on railway safety on a narrow platform he came within millimetres of being taken out by a passing train.

The senator was standing with the Mayor of Milford Ben Blake who talking about commuter safety.

As the fast-moving train glides toward the presentation, Mr Blake ironically utters: "Safety, as you know, is paramount."

As soon as says his aphorism, the train almost catches Senator Blumenthal — and his easel — interrupting his public safety announcement with so much irony.
