Speeding train crashes into broken-down truck
A motorist has filmed the moment a speeding locomotive ploughed into a broken-down semi-trailer on a level crossing near a California highway.
Tee Sae was driving along Vista Avenue near Chowchilla when he came across a stranded truck and its driver, who was standing further down the tracks frantically waving at the Union Pacific train to slow down, ABC30 reports.
But, as the footage shows, the train was unable to stop in time and split the trailer in two.
Its contents – boxes of trail mix packets – exploded as the train's engine speared through.
The 1.6km-long train was carry military equipment from Fort Lewis in Washington to Fort Irwin in California's Mojave Desert.
Fortunately no-one was injured in the incident.
The train was undamaged and was able to continue its journey several hours later, while authorities worked to clean up the remnants of the trailer and its cargo.
