'Siberian Express' freezes Niagara Falls solid

What is usually a torrent of water along the US-Canada border has become frozen block of ice.

A combination of a polar vortex and the “Siberian Express” has frozen the normally majestic Niagara Falls into an almost-solid ice wall.

The series of waterfalls that on the Niagara River have frozen in the blizzard that has coated much of North America in a blanket of ice.

Video shows massive ice boulders have formed where clouds of mist would normally be on the falls, which partially freeze every year, NBC reports.

Large icicles have formed along the falls as the water continues to gush at certain points, but the water never stops completely.

The sub-zero temperatures have been the “Siberian Express” – a current of cold air that runs from western Russia over the North Pole to North America.

Niagara Falls has only frozen entirely solid once in recorded history — in March, 1848, with an ice jam allowing people to walk across the frozen river.
