Rapper shot while making a music video

A US rapper has been shot while filming a music video for the Black Lives Matter movement.

King Yella, 26, whose real name is Cemone Lewis, was standing with an entourage of musicians at a Chicago underpass on Tuesday when a barrage of bullets erupted from a passing car.

A camera filming the music video captured the moment Lewis and his crew dropped to the ground as suspect in the car opened fire.

The rapper was reportedly shot in the abdomen and his elbow however his injuries were not life threatening, DNA Info reports.

After the shooting, a Twitter account representing the Black Disciples gang posted a message claiming responsibility for the attack.

Lewis later posted a video to Instagram showing him driving himself to the hospital with a bullet wound.

"God is good I'm good this was me on my way to the hospital bleedin like a b---- stay focused cause people hate and don't wanna see u shine," Lewis wrote.
