Police escort geese on US highway

A family of geese have caused chaos on a US highway as they casually ambled along a major road with a police escort.

The birds were filmed by local TV crews and curious bystanders as they held up traffic for hours on Indiana's busy I80/94 on Monday, ABC13 reports.

The family that consisted of two adults and five babies wandered along the shoulder of the road, Indiana State Trooper Jason Madison said.

"The babies were kind of wandering back and forth. They were getting close to the line a lot of times, so our concern was we didn't want them to cross that line and a motorist not see them and injure them, so we just stayed right next to them," he said.

Police eventually guided the animals to safety and the normal traffic flow resumed.
