Two parachute jumpers are in hospital after colliding mid-air during an air show in the US.

The military men were taking part in the Chicago Air and Water Show when they collided, Lieutenant Christine Gargan told ABC7.

One jumper was a navy sailor with the navy’s Leap Frog unit; the other was a member of the US army competing with the Golden Knights unit.

The Golden Knights unit member landed on a city block, hitting a building twice before falling to the ground.

Residents in the streets near the crash site said they could tell something was wrong while he was still in the air.

“The man was coming really low and appeared to be motionless, lifeless and came in really low, right at the building,” one witness said.

The public affairs officer for the Golden Knights confirmed the man is in a serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

The other parachutist crashed onto a beach, police confirmed.

He is being treated for a lower leg fracture but is in a stable condition.
