One person killed in Brooklyn gas explosion

At least one person is dead after a massive gas explosion tore through a building in Brooklyn earlier today. 

At least three other people were injured in the blast, with one in a critical condition, New York Daily News reports.

More than 100 firefighters responded to emergency calls to help get the fire under control, as it quickly spread and ignited a neighbouring building.

Witnesses said the smoke from the fire engulfed the sky.

“I heard a big noise,” witness Brigitte Martinez said.

“I looked out the window and saw a lot of people running around, there were flames, the sky was black.”

Authorities at the scene said the body found inside had been burned almost beyond recognition.

The source of the explosion is still unknown, but authorities said they are investigating the incident.
