Newspaper 'regrets' promoting wiccan prostitute

Staff at a US newspaper received a shock on Friday when they discovered a witch profiled in the paper's "Faith and Values" section was also allegedly a prostitute.

Intelligencer Journal executive director Barbara Hough Roda published a statement online on Monday expressing her regret that the woman's extracurricular activities were not picked up by editorial staff.

"Soon after the story was published, information surfaced that the woman, Kim Cabot Consoli, had a criminal record that most recently included charges of prostitution and promoting prostitution," Ms Roda wrote.

Ms Cabot Consoli, who teaches witchcraft from her Bainbridge, Pennsylvania home, was arrested as recently as February after allegedly offering sex to an undercover police officer, Ms Roda revealed.

"Had this information been mined earlier, the story would never have been written, let alone published," she said.

The original story titled "The next generation of witchcraft comes to Bainbridge" has since been removed by the Intelligencer Journal's website.
